Good Visiting Matthew's brother. We went on August 3 to visit Matthew's brother down in Monroe. It was a haul to get down there, but it was good to finally see their place and spend some time there. AJ loved it and ran himself ragged. We didn't get to go to the hot spring like we planned since it was so hot out. But still was a good time seeing family. Teaching ESL. I cannot even begin to explain. I wrote a post about it on my LinkedIn. I've had so much good feedback, from my manager, from my coworker, and from the students themselves. Good California and the beach. I stubbornly insisted on a beach trip during our California trip over the 4th of July weekend. There was a lot of noise in my ear about traffic and crowds. Two jalapenos are coming in, and I’ve attempted another round of squash that has brought up seedlings already. We will see. I’m excited to get some things planted for fall harvest – spinach, lettuce, and carrots. The tomatoes are now bending over the tops of the cages Freebies. Our company has a "swap shop" online, and s...

I guess I have always been satisfied with the notion of a steady, emotionally fulfilling life: a husband, kids, a dog, vacations. I don’t need the big mansion on the beach, and it definitely wouldn’t be as fun to live in it alone. So while I never thought I was “one of those BYU girls” who came to school specifically to get married and have babies, I guess in actuality, that really was all I’ve wanted my entire life. I got engaged at 21, and went on and off with him for another 5-7 months after we broke it off. Then I had a long stint of learning how to be happy just doing the things I enjoy doing. And I feel I’ve done a really good job of that. I’ve worked and supported myself and traveled and challenged myself, all without a husband. Another long relationship followed when I was 26 all the way up until age 31.5. We broke off the engagement whe...
