May in Review

5/1 I went to the gym for squats and hit a PR at 170lb. I started exploring oregano for my sinus issue. Matthew started taking things over to the new house. I stopped by the storage unit. I continued packing the house and did bath and bed time.

5/2 I went on a walk. I took some things to the new house after work in five or six trips while AJ was at daycare. Matthew picked up pizza. I packed all evening and did bath and bed time.

5/3 was moving day, so I did not go to the gym. I took my bed apart. The U-Haul place we used didn't give us the dolly that I ordered, which was frustrating. Thankfully, we had a lot of unexpected help with the loading of the U-Haul (but they vanished for unloading, sadly). We realized in the heat of the day that the new house didn't have A/C, AND the swamp cooler was broken. There are faulty and loose electrical outlets throughout the house. The power for the clothes dryer was a three prong instead of four, so Matthew had to play electrician and figure out how to rewire our dryer, making a trip to Walmart and Home Depot--kind of a nightmare. The screen on the sliding door kept coming off the rails. Just lots of defects we noticed on day one. LOTS of them.

5/4 This day brought home the difficulty of doing ANYTHING with a toddler. What I thought would be a quick trip to the condo to grab some things turned into an epic ordeal resulting from normal toddler behavior. I took AJ over to get a couple of things. He took off his shoes and socks, which is just habit for him in our condo, but which created an ordeal on this particular day since the floors are dirty, and I didn't plan to stay long. He ran around wildly, enjoying the open space (we try to have him walk in the condo to be considerate of downstairs neighbors). While I was loading things into the car, he made his way to the bathroom and found the 1/4 roll of toilet paper I had left in the bathroom just for visits and cleaning, and he ran around unraveling what was left of it. After unraveling the partial toilet paper roll, he informed me that he needed to poop, of course. When he came to get me to wipe him, I went in to find very mushy fecal matter on the toilet seat from when he slid off of it to come get me. I used the unraveled toilet paper to wipe him, and barely had enough. But I didn't have any wet wipes to finish the job, so I needed him to get into the shower so I could rinse him off. Obviously we didn't have any full size towels at the condo. We figured it out. When I was downstairs putting something in my car, AJ started to come down the stairs without shoes on. I asked him to please go back inside. He ran in the door, slipped and fell, and the living room painting fell on top of him. I heard him fall and start crying as I reached the top of the stairs. Between the running around, the toilet paper, the poop, the fall, and the general chaos and noise, I was wiped out in the span of 20 minutes. I just am not sure how parents with multiple young children do this every day.

This was also the day I had several meltdowns as I realized in the morning that there was NO cable outlet in the home. Eventually we had a long conversation with the landlord, and he said there was a cable running through the kitchen from the outside. Mind you, this is not a port where we plug the Coax into the wall. It was a Coax cable sitting between the walls of the house, with the kitchen hole taped over. So our modem and router are on the kitchen floor. But at least they work, right?

After my mom came over to watch AJ, Matthew and I went to Home Depot to get some shelves to put above the laundry area. I was really excited to have those!

5/5 I slept in and did a couple of walks at work. Matthew locked his keys in the car, so my evening plans of a Walmart trip were thwarted by having to stop at the house to get the key, pick up AJ, and drive to Draper to give him his extra key. But he did install my living room lights in the new house that evening so the living room would finally be lit up!

5/6 I got up early to squat. Work was pretty quiet. I left at 3pm with my skip level manager's permission so I could manage some house things with AJ at daycare. I got a LOT done. Lots of progress on the kitchen, mostly. I went to Walmart and bought some things, spent too much money. I picked up AJ, fed him, and just continued to unpack. I got the bathroom done, just have a Sterilite drawer set to sift through. And I got my room done for the most part as well.

5/7 I got up early to bench press. I dropped my car off at the mechanic because of a weird noise. Work was pretty quiet. I did some more Amazon shopping for organizing tools since we have so little space at the house. I picked up AJ and went to the condo for some things--remaining food, Tupperware, Max's litter mat, boxes, etc. I spent a lot of time setting out boxes and flattening remaining ones. The guy who picked them up was super rude and ungrateful. He called because he didn't see the mattress covers, so my husband went to hunt them down. The dude didn't say thanks to my husband or to me. I even sent a text saying, "You're welcome!" and he replied saying, "I left some boxes for the next person." But I had already taken down the KSL ad by then, so that really was actually an annoyance, not a help. How do such rude people have any success in life?

5/8 I got up early to deadlift. Work was a little busier, which was good. I put together the pantry door shelves to help with some more storage space. I finished organizing the bathroom. Matthew put together the stand for the TV. I did bath time.

5/9 I went on a 1 mile run after waking up to a text from our daycare lady that her son had pink eye. I texted our backup daycare lady who was also closed for the day. I called my mom who didn't answer. Matthew ended up staying home the first half of the day because I had to do tech support for a virtual class at work. Matthew installed the water filter under the kitchen sink--hallelujah! After getting home, I put together the wheeled cart for the kitchen where I put our appliances and our microwave to free up counter space. It has been working out really well. I even got to finally clean the kitchen after finishing putting things away--the floor was so gross. It felt good to have that room mostly done. Matthew picked up a storage ottoman from a lady in Draper on KSL for $25. It's the exact kind I've wanted for literal years. So excited about it! This was also the day that the kitchen cabinets were done being painted--looked so good.

5/10 I set up for our community yard sale. I went to the gym for all my compounds and hit a deadlift PR. I dropped off stuff at Goodwill. Did some cleaning and laundry. I went back to the condo to show it to interested renters. I got gas and Dutch and went to my friend's house to watch her kids so she could help in the backyard. I got groceries. I hung up some decor in the bathroom, hallways, and living room! That felt good to get done. My mom came over to bring me a Bansai tree and a Mother's Day card.

The ceiling has since been painted, and the boob lights are being replaced

5/11 On Mother's Day I got into it with a rude lady who commented on my Instagram reel telling me I need to clean my ceiling. So. Rude. Matthew and AJ brought me breakfast in bed with my Mother's Day cards. I got a certificate for a spa day up the canyon, which I am excited about. We went to the Aquarium and went to Wasabi Sushi for an early dinner. I also showed the condo to some more people.

5/12 I did new hire orientation at work all on my own for the first time. After getting AJ, I made him pizza. I went to the condo to show it to renters.

5/13 I went to the gym for bench presses (and squats). I got a weird message from a Buy Nothing lady complaining that I skipped over her for a free item I gave away, so that was nuts. I started looking for quotes on having our laundry room and storage area tiled with tile I bought ten years ago. After getting AJ, we went to the condo to meet a tile guy who didn't show up. He has had a series of flaky unreliable behavior, frustratingly.

5/14 I went to the gym for deadlifts (and bench presses). We had the carpets cleaned at the new house. Unfortunately it didn't help in AJ's room. I actually think it smells worse now. I made Bear Creek potato soup for dinner, and AJ had FOUR servings. He loves soup.

5/15 I went to the gym for squats. AJ got his first "bad" report from daycare for hitting his little friend who asked him multiple times to stop. We haven't had an issue since, so hopefully he doesn't do that again. The tile guy started to set the tile. I did some checking on prospective tenants previous housing. I ordered Little Caes. I did bath and bed time. Matthew went to the condo.

5/16 I ran a mile. I got off work and went to get AJ for our dentist appointment. That was a bloody disaster. AJ got overwhelmed by the noise and started acting like a (monster) 3-year old. He dumped crayons on the floor and stomped on them and broke them. He dumped the teeth out of the demo teeth set. He dropped one of the teeth into a hole in the ground. He refused to watch videos or be consoled. It was so stressful. They did my cleaning as quickly as they could, and I had to reschedule his cleaning for the next Friday. After we left, he was fine! I gave him some snacks from his backpack. We went to Smith's, got McDonald's, and went home to eat and put away groceries. We left again to get gas, stop at the condo, and go to storage. Then we went to the library to return books and get new ones. AJ loves the library. The tile guy finished our laundry storage, and Matthew sent me photos. Looks so good!

5/17 Our old neighbors brought us their stored lawn mower to use. I did an early workout so I could have enough time to get dressed and head to Saratoga for our niece's baptism. We made it at 10:33, and I'm proud of that! We stopped and got lunch on the way home and stopped into Deseret Book to see if they had any chocolate milk from BYU Creamery (nope). Then we spent several hours in the back and front yards doing yard work. Matthew worked on getting the equipment up and running. I weeded the garden area and front planters. I made dinner, and we watched some of the new Dumbo as a family. Our cabinet painter started the prep work on painting the living room/kitchen/hallway/bathroom of our condo.

5/18 I did yoga and had to go to the condo to talk to our painter about our lights and things. After I got back, we went as a family to Paris Baguette. We spent a long time at Walmart afterward mostly getting things for the house, like curtain rods, curtains, and plants and seeds! We stood out in the rain looking at plants and flowers for a while. I'm so excited to plant tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, squash, pumpkins, flowers, and more. After getting back from Walmart, I put up the curtain rods in the bathroom and kitchen. I made crockpot chicken chili for the rainy weather. I went to a doula prenatal appointment from 3:00-5:45. Matthew had put up the laundry shelves while I was gone, and discovered that the crockpot came unplugged from one of the many loose outlets in this old frustrating home. I rinsed off in the shower and took AJ to my aunt Amy's house for Ava's graduation party. AJ fell asleep on the way there, which thankfully doesn't ruin our lives the way it used to. He had a good time. Matthew and I did bed time together.

5/19 I once again had a hard time waking up to work out, so I slept in. I worked, picked up AJ, and went to Walmart for returns. We had the chili we made on Sunday and spent the evening together. Our painter finished the work in the condo! I did bath and bed time.

A shower curtain in front of the washer and dryer.

5/20 I got up early for the gym--bench day plus squats. I tried to add a drop of undiluted oregano oil to my sinus rinse for the first time--a mistake. Will dilute moving forward. I got lunch with my manager at Slackwater. I picked up AJ, and we grabbed cookies to take home. Matthew grilled chicken and made dinner while I worked in the garden planting the starters we got on Sunday. Matthew did bath and bed time. I diluted my oregano oil and did another sinus rinse.

5/21 I went to the gym for deadlifts plus bench presses. I did an oregano sinus rinse. Work was pretty low key. I ordered some Xlear Rescue nasal spray and some Argentyn 23 silver nasal spray per the recommendation of a helpful commenter on Instagram. I also ordered some new glasses. I worked in the yard that evening.

5/22 I went to the gym for squats. Work was quiet, and I didn't feel well. I took a ten minute nap in the afternoon, which actually helped a ton. I went to a Yelp event in the evening at Loki Coffee; it was SO fun. The cake from Tomodachi was incredible. Both of my (decaf) drinks were so good. The hand roll was yummy. I over ate and hurt my stomach more. Matthew handled the evening with AJ so I could go to the event.

5/23 I did a morning walk. I got off work and picked up AJ for a dentist appointment do over. We went to storage to get my pump stuff for a friend. We went to lunch at J Dawg's. We got groceries at Smith's. At home I cleaned and did laundry. I sanitized my pump stuff. My belly was hurting terribly again this day.

5/24 I went to the gym. We went to the condo and cleaned while our friends/neighbors watched AJ for a couple of hours. We worked in the yard a lot, while the landlord had a new swamp cooler put in for us. I planted pumpkins and squash. I went to help my friend with pumping. I watched Handmaid's Tale.

5/25 I went on a walk and had a virtual urgent care visit for bloating and pain I had been having since Thursday. We went to Kuwahara's and got: a raspberry plant, two strawberry plants, a jalapeno plant, a broccoli plant, and some creeping flowers. We got a smoothie for AJ and Matthew, then went to Walmart where we got a bird feeder and seeds, some more lettuce seeds, grass seed, and more. I spent the rest of the day in both yards. In the front yard I dug out a lot of rocks to plant the creeping flowers, and dug the path around the stairs for the wildflower blanket I got. Matthew made ribs, chicken, corn on the cob, and potatoes for dinner.

5/26 We both had the day off work. I went to the gym and tested my 1RM on bench press: 115! I did squats too. I showered, and we went to Cinemark to watch Lilo & Stitch. We came home, gave AJ some lunch, and got ready to go to the pool, where we stayed for two hours. My mom and Josh came. AJ got to play with Kennedy. We went home where I had a to-do list: boil eggs, make egg salad, make banana muffins, plant lettuce and broccoli, and get supplements ready for the week. Maybe doesn't sound like a lot, but it took a lot of time to do all that. We did an early bedtime for AJ because he was absolutely wiped out and so emotional.

Caught AJ reading

5/27 I went on a walk and had a mostly normal day at work We did have a "restructure" meeting in HR which wasn't fun. AJ was with my mom who took him to do lots of fun things. She dropped him off at home. It was a pretty normal evening. Matthew made tacos. I planted the last of the creeping flowers,  turned over some dirt and planted some sunflowers. I did bath and bed time.

5/28 I went to the gym for deadlifts (and bench presses). I tested my 1RM on deadlift: 225! We had a training workshop at work on getting fiscally fit. That went well, but low turnout. AJ's bedroom carpet got cleaned again--hopefully the smell comes out this time. We got dinner at Itto Sushi. Matthew worked in the yard, AJ played outside, and I did some tasks inside the house. I did bath time, and Matthew put AJ down. AJ was super sweet this entire evening--giving lots of loves, being so excited to see his dad, and told his dad, "I just want to be with you." Melted us.

Roses from the backyard

5/29 I went to the gym for squats. I tested my 1RM and chickened out of 190 on the way down. I ended up with 187.2, and the app estimated 192 for my 1RM, so not too bad! Maybe could've hit it with a spotter or coach. We had our party for our ESL students, and it was so inspiring and emotional. 10/14 of them showed improvement in their post-test, which is awesome. I also got my $5 whitening kit from work for getting my dental cleaning done.

5/30 I went on a walk. I worked a half day--facilitated an online leadership class. I went to the DMV to get a license with my updated address because of all the craziness going on with voting accessibility for women. I don't want there to be any reason I can't vote. I paid June rent and also opened a new account for our condo. I was able to go the condo and clean the bathrooms--mirrors, sinks, counters, cabinets, and drawers. We had Best Home Appliance come to look at our washing machine. I did some cleaning. I got groceries and picked up AJ. Matthew made dinner.

5/31 I went to the gym. Matthew did some yard work. We went to the condo. I cleaned for an hour while Matthew took AJ to the pool. Then I went to the pool, and Matthew went to get smoothies and tacos. He dropped us off and went back to the condo to do some projects - hole patching, paint touch ups, etc. After rinsing ourselves off in the shower, I was able to clean floors, vacuum, and do laundry at the house while AJ watched a movie. We went to Mo Bettah as a family for dinner. I did bed time.

Books I read in May:
-The Club by Ellery Lloyd (audiobook)
-Think Again by Adam Grant (audiobook)
-This is How it Always Is by Laurie Frankel (audiobook)

Obviously reading was not my focus as I feel like I've not had a spare minute this month. I'm so ready to be done cleaning the condo and to have a weekend with nothing going on.
