Working Downtown

So here is the story of how I came to switch jobs.  On Friday, July 27 at 7:24am, I received a text from my best friend’s mom, Debra, saying she needed an assistant for her and another vice president. She asked if I’d be willing to discuss further.  I let her know I was happy at Alpine but that I’d be open to listening.  She said I am sharp and would be a good part of the team. We talked that evening. She told me a little about the position and the company and asked me to send my resume. So I did.  She asked me to come have lunch and see the office, which I did on Monday, July 29. Don’t worry, I was clocked out, and used basically all my lunch time for the week to do this. So she and Aaron took me to lunch at Cheesecake Factory. We discussed a lot of the things at my current job that I find most challenging or frustrating. I asked a couple of questions as well. We walked over to the office and she showed me around. We sat and chatted for a minute, and I told her

Weight Loss, Callings, and New Jobs

Just a few general updates on life because my journal gets a brief, fragmented day-by-day account, but I like to go more in-depth every so often. I’ve been counting macros consistently for almost 6 months now. It’ll be 6 months on 9/11. It’s been a lot slower than I anticipated. I think this is for a couple of reasons. The first is that when I first started counting, I was quite heavy. Your body is much more willing to lose weight when it has a lot to lose. Those “last five” that everyone talks about? Those are no joke. The other reason it’s been different is I’ve had re-feed or “treat meals” every Saturday evening. In my first round of serious counting, I had a high calorie day on Saturday, but no re-feeds. I am split on my feelings about this. It does help me to make better decisions throughout the week because I have my re-feed to look forward to. But also I do think it has contributed to me taking longer. Still, it’s been good for my mental health in this long, long diet phase.

Favorite Things

A couple of months ago, I decided to have a half birthday party, and it would be a Favorite Things party. I had seen some friends do these, and then finally participated in one with my Relief Society a while back. It was so fun! So I set up a favorite things party with my favorite people. The rules were to bring two of your favorite thing. For example, if you love "Lots o Lashes Mascara" from Maybelline, you'd bring two of those. Or if you love Swig, you could bring two gift cards for Swig, etc. The other part of the requirements were to bring your favorite treat. I made Swig cookies from a mix, and brought two Cinemark movie tickets. Joyce brought a bag of mini Snickers and two of her favorite natural deodorants (Schmidt's). Kathryn brought a bowl of strawberries and two mini notebooks. Brittney brought eclairs and foot cream with nail polish (because pedicures are her favorite). Kristine brought lemon poppyseed muffins, and two separate things: pancak
