Reflecting on 2020

Image
It’s that time where I review the year, which I think we can all agree has been a shit show.  Here were my goals from 2020, which I made before knowing the extent of the diarrhea splatter that would be 2020.  Physical -Possibly run another half, if my knee, hip, and feet can take it. -Do stretch yoga 1-2x per week. I'm bad at this and know my body needs it. Mental -Read (actual text/digital text) 12 books, and listen to 2 audiobooks per month (36 total). -Keeping last year's goal to certify as a group fitness instructor, preferably Les Mills. -Do 1-2 minutes every day of breathing to relax. Emotional -Recite daily affirmations. -Do some Gottman worksheets with Matthew to strengthen our relationship. Spiritual -Try to connect daily to my Creator. -Read Jesus Calling on weekdays. Weekends are a bonus. Let’s review, shall we? Maybe we can do it without laughing.  Physical  Running another half has not been even remotely desirable to me. The Best I Can

I’ve had a lot of foot in mouth moments in my life. Like, a lot of them.  I’ve had times where I’ve done the wrong thing and hurt people. I have the specifics in my brain from childhood and adolescence—things I have long since apologized for but still feel bad about. Especially fresh are my offenses in adulthood; I remember forever the times people are upset with me.  In my own personal life, I put a lot of weight on people’s intentions. So I’ve always tried to err on the side of seeing my own mistakes and apologizing, sometimes before I even know if offense was taken. Sometimes I don’t kno

I decided to take the challenge from the Happier podcast of making a "20 for 20" list for this year. I'm SO glad I did.  I chose to make this a list of things I wanted  to do. They didn't have to be goals or work or habits or anything like that. Purely things I wanted to do.  So here are my 20, as typed in my iPhone notes: Do a paint night (done - Harry Potter!) Do three Gottman worksheets with Matthew (done - more than three!) Buy a bicycle (nope) Bake a new treat like creme brulee (done) Do an escape room (did this for my birthday!) Try a new fitness class (done) Watch a black and white film (done - My Man Godfrey) Read an intuitive eating book (done) Read a classic novel (done - Little Women) Run an accountability group (I tried; had little to no interest) Go on a ski lift (nope) Visit Antelope Island in April or May (nope) Visit the salt flats (nope) Go on a hike (done - several!) Tulip festival (nope; it was only online) Take a weekend trip (done) Learn a Christm
